This is the stock kart as it arrived from Fun Spot. Kind of boring, needs more lasers.
Our first challenge was the very unusual waveform coming from the power coil in the Honda. It varied in amplitude from 20 - 50 volts and in frequency from 28 hz to 60 hz. We turned that into 3.3 and 5 volts regulated DC.
Our power supply was large enough to require its own box. It is mounted behind the driver.
The Honda motor is controlled by a governor. We attached two servos, one on each side, to contol the speed.
A close up of our servo installation.
This is the main computer module. It connects to the power supply, servos, and other sensors via 5 large, 7 channel cables and DIN connectors.
Inside the computer module sits our microcontroller mounted on our custom printed circuit board.
Our custom dashboard shows green LEDs when your Speed Boost is ready. A Red X means you've been hit by another driver and your engine has been disabled for 5 seconds.
Blue lights indicate your Laser is charged and ready to fire!
The brake light houses the IR reciever and lights up when you've been hit to tell the driver behind you he has scored a hit. The IR laser transmitter is mounted in the tube on top of the brake light.
Everything all lit up.
The pickup sensor is UV "blacklight" based. It glows a cool purple and really lights up the floresent pickup pads.
