Project:

Environmental regulations are becoming much stricter for water consumption and energy efficiency. Eco-Sense is a lightweight and portable home addition to those with existing irrigation systems or for those who would like a new environmental friendly irrigation system. Eco-Sense's main focus is efficiency with power use and water consumption. It takes advantage of low power mode technology to ensure the device requires minimum power to operate as intended. Eco-Sense comes equipped with autonomous control of water consumption, consisting of a central HUB subsystem, a sensor monitoring subsystem, and a solenoid controller subsystem.

The sensor subsystem consists of a barometer, soil hydration sensor, temperature sensor, humidity sensor, and a rain sensor. All the sensors are controlled autonomously, requiring no input from the user. The sensor subsystem is designed as an environmental feedback system. The system will collect data at periodic intervals and transmit the data wirelessly to the central HUB subsystem to be processed.

The central HUB subsystem allows the user to view live feedback throughout the week. The user is able to interact with the central HUB subsystem through an LCD display and a set of buttons for overriding actions. The display contains various amounts of information such as previous environmental variables. The central HUB subsystem contains an override feature in the event that water should be stopped during a cycle or if the user wants to water more frequently. The central HUB subsystem's purpose is to offer a simple interface to the Eco-Sense system.

The solenoid subsystem is responsible for the control of water consumption to the irrigated home. The subsystem is equipped with a water solenoid that will turn on when the central subsystem sends a water signal wirelessly. The valve has a precautionary timeout delay to avoid a continuous session of watering.
