University of Central Florida – Online Math Contest
As a high school student in Central Florida in the early 1990s, I competed in many high school mathematics competitions. My love for mathematics came from these contests and I credit much of what I learned in high school to the Regional Mu Alpha Theta Contests, the Florida Mathematics League and the AMC, AIME and USAMO.
As a volunteer interviewer for MIT, I was shocked to find out that several area high schools did not even allow their students to compete in the AMC. As a college student, I always dreamed of setting up tutoring for students who wanted to reach the USAMO. While the UCF-OMC wasn't tutoring, it was my attempt at encouraging excellence in mathematics in the Orlando area.
